Vivotek Cameras
This documentation instructs users on how to configure their Vivotek network camera via a browser window by logging in to the camera. Users will be instructed in how to configure the camera to send alarm signals to Matrix when motion is detected. See the Add Stream documentation for instructions on how to data enter cameras within Matrix.
Important
This document contains supplemental documentation intended to be used in conjunction with your Vivotek users’ manual. This document assumes the user is familiar with the setup and use of their Vivotek network camera and has a copy of the applicable manual nearby to reference when necessary.
Please Note: Unless otherwise stated, the fields mentioned within this document are required for correct setup on the camera. If any of these fields are not available to you, you may require a software update. Contact the manufacturer for additional information.
The screenshots within this documentation are of the browser interface for a Vivotek FD9380-H Network Camera. Your interface may look different or have different options available. Be sure to consult your manual to confirm you are updating the correct settings.
Before proceeding to the following setup instructions, access your camera from your browser.
Motion Configuration
This section instructs users on how to configure the camera’s motion detection settings to ensure the camera reports when it sees motion in view.
Perform the following steps to configure motion detection on the camera.
- Select the Configuration tab.
- Select the Applications tab located on the left-hand sidebar menu.
- Select Motion Detection beneath the Applications tab.
- This will display the Motion Detection Settings.
- Select the Enable Motion Detection option.
- Select the Normal Light Mode tab.
- Select New to create a new motion detection window.
- Input the identifying name you would like to assign to the motion detection window into the Window name field.
- Drag the motion area box to the desired size and area you would like the camera to watch for motion.
- If applicable, update the Sensitivity and Item Size as desired.
- Select Save to complete creating the motion window.
- Select the Profile Mode tab to display profile options.
- Select New to create a new profile.
- Input the identifying name you would like to assign to the profile into the Window name field.
- Drag the motion area box to the desired size and area you would like the camera to watch for motion.
- If applicable, update the Sensitivity and Item Size as desired.
- Select Save to complete creating the profile.
- If applicable, repeat steps 12-16 to create additional profiles as necessary.
Event Configuration
This section instructs users on how to configure the camera’s SMTP settings to communicate with Matrix when triggering signals. See the Stream Management documentation for more information on camera SMTP settings.
Network Video Recorders (NVR) are configured similarly to single camera streams for SMTP communication. See the General NVR Setup documentation for more information on configuring NVRs.
Perform the following steps to configure events on the camera.
- Select the Configuration tab.
- Select the Event tab located on the left-hand sidebar menu.
- Select Event Settings beneath the Event tab.
- This will display the Event Settings page.
- Select Add from the Media options.
- This will display the Media Type settings.
- Input a brief description of the event into the Media Name field.
- Select Snapshot from the Media Type options.
- This will display additional settings.
- If applicable, select the camera stream the system should capture a snapshot of from the Source dropdown.
- Select Save to complete adding the Media type.
- Select Add from the Server Settings options.
- This will display the Server Type settings.
- Input a brief description of the server into the Server Name field.
- Input the email address the notification will send from into the Sender email address field.
- Input the Recipient address generated under the stream’s SMTP Settings into the Recipient email address field.
- Input the Server address generated under the stream’s SMTP Settings into the Server address field.
- If applicable, define the camera’s User name as required by the camera’s settings.
- If applicable, define the camera’s Password as required by the camera’s settings.
- Input the Server Port generated under the stream’s SMTP Settings into the Server port field.
- Select Save Server to complete adding the Server Settings.
- Select Add from the Event options.
- This will display the Event Settings.
- Input a brief description of the event into the Event name field.
- Select the Enable Event option.
- If applicable, update the Priority, Motion Detection, and Schedule options according to your preferences.
- Select Trigger to display the trigger settings.
- Select Video Motion Detection to display the motion settings.
- Select the motion detection window you created during the Motion Detection steps above from the Normal options.
- Select the motion detection profiles you created during the Motion Detection steps above from the Profile options.
- Select Action to display the action settings.
- Select the Server checkbox to activate the Server Type added during step 17.
- Select the Media Type created during step 8 from the Media dropdown for the activated server.
- Select Save Event to complete creating the event.
After completing the above steps, your Vivotek camera is now configured to send an email when motion is detected.
Creating Users
This section instructs users on how to create user profiles on the camera. User profiles allow individuals to log in to the camera as necessary to update settings or manage options. The user profile’s credentials used when data entering the camera within Camera Setup cannot contain special characters.
Perform the following steps to create a new user profile.
- Select the Configuration tab.
- Select the Security tab located on the left-hand sidebar menu.
- Select User Accounts beneath the Security tab.
- This will display the User Accounts Settings.
- Select New User from the Select a user type dropdown.
- This will display the new user settings.
- Input the ID you would like the user to use to log in into the User Name field.
- Input the passcode you would like the user to use to log in into the Password field.
- Input the password a second time into the Confirm user password field.
- If applicable, update the Privilege level.
- If the user profile will be used to data enter the camera within Camera Setup, Administrator should be used as the privilege level.
- Select Add to complete creating the user.
