Axis Cameras

This documentation instructs users on how to configure their Axis network camera via a browser window by logging in to the camera. Users will be instructed in how to configure the camera to send alarm signals to Matrix when motion is detected. See the Add Stream documentation for instructions on how to data enter cameras within Matrix.


Important

This document contains supplemental documentation intended to be used in conjunction with your Axis users’ manual. This document assumes the user is familiar with the setup and use of their Axis network camera and has a copy of the applicable manual nearby to reference when necessary.

Please Note: Unless otherwise stated, the fields mentioned within this document are required for correct setup on the camera. If any of these fields are not available to you, you may require a software update. Contact the manufacturer for additional information.

The screenshots within this documentation are of the browser interface for an AXIS M3047-P Network Camera. Your interface may look different or have different options available. Be sure to consult your manual to confirm you are updating the correct settings.



Before proceeding to the following setup instructions, access the camera from your browser.

Recipient Creation

The Recipient functionality of your Axis camera will be utilized to configure a destination for the notification email.

Perform the following steps to create a recipient for the motion detection email.

  1. Select the Settings option.

  1. Select the System tab. image
  2. Select the Events option.
    • This will open the Events configuration options within an alternate window. image
  3. Select the Recipients tab from those available.
    • This will display the Recipients table. image
  4. Select Add to create a new recipient.
    • This will open the Recipient Setup options in an alternate window. image
  5. Input a brief identifier or description of the recipient into the Name field.
  6. Select Email from the Type dropdown.
    • This will update the available options within the Recipient Setup window. image
  7. Input the Recipient address generated under the stream’s SMTP Settings into the To field.
  8. Select User Defined from the Provider dropdown.
    • This will update the available options within the Recipient Setup window. image
  9. If applicable, define the camera’s User ID as required by the camera’s settings.
  10. If applicable, define the camera’s Password as required by the camera’s settings.
  11. Input the Recipient address generated under the stream’s SMTP Settings into the From email field.
  12. Input the Server address generated under the stream’s SMTP Settings into the SMTP Server field.
  13. Input the Server Port number generated under the stream’s SMTP Settings into the Port field.
  14. Select OK to complete creating the recipient.

Motion Detection Setup

The Motion Detection functionality of your Axis Network Camera has to be configured to prompt the email to send when motion is identified in a particular area.

Perform the following steps to configure motion detection on the camera.

  1. Select the Settings option.

  2. Select the Apps tab. image
  3. Select the Axis Video Motion Detection 4.2-5 option. image
    • This will display the Axis Video Motion Detection options. image
  4. Select Open.
    • This will display the Axis Video Motion Detection setup options within an alternate browser tab. image
  5. If applicable, select the plus icon to create a new motion profile.
  6. Drag the motion boundary into the desired shape and location within the camera’s view.
    • Any motion captured within this boundary will trigger a motion alarm. image

All updates to the motion boundary will be automatically saved to the system.

Action Rule Setup

Axis Camera Action Rules allow users to create specific criteria that must be met prior to the camera performing an action.

Perform the following steps to set the action rule that will trigger the email.

  1. Select the Settings option.

  2. Select the System tab. image
  3. Select the Events option. image
    • This will open the Events configuration options within an alternate window. image
  4. Select the Action Rules tab from those available. image
  5. Select Add to create a new action rule on the camera.
    • This will open the Action Rule Setup options in an alternate window.
    • The following steps will instruct users on creating a specific action rule. For additional information on action rules and their function, see your Axis Camera documentation. image
  6. Select the Enable Rule option to confirm the rule is active on the camera.
  7. Input a descriptive identifier for the rule into the Name field.
  8. Select Detectors from the Trigger dropdown.
  9. Select MotionAlarm from the second Trigger dropdown.
  10. Select Yes from the State options.
  11. Select the Start Condition Only option.
  12. Select Always (No Schedule) from the Schedule dropdown.
  13. Select Send Video Clip from the Type dropdown.
    • This will update the available options within the Action Rule Setup window. image
  14. Select View Area 1 from the Select View Area dropdown.
  15. Select H.264 from the Stream Profile dropdown.
  16. Select the Pre-event Time option from the Duration options.
  17. Input 1 into the Second(s) field for the Pre-event time.
  18. Select the Post-event Time option from the Duration options.
  19. Input 1 into the Second(s) field for the Post-event time.
  20. Select the recipient created in the above steps from the Recipient dropdown.
    • This will update the available options within the Action Rule Setup window. image
  21. Input the desired email subject line into the Subject field.
  22. Input video.mkv into the Base file name field.
    • This may be the default file name for your device.
  23. Select the Add date/time suffix option.
  24. Select OK to complete creating the Action Rule.

After completing the above instruction sets, your Axis camera is now configured to send an email when motion is detected.
